Frequently Asked Questions about Teacher Training
What support do graduates receive after training?
Graduates become part of the Somaphyx community with continuing education opportunities and ongoing mentorship options to keep their teaching skills sharp.
Which program is right for me?
The Practitioner’s Apprenticeship and the Mat & Reformer Certificate of Teaching Proficiency are designed for those who want to train as teachers from the ground up. The Pro Mentorship is specifically for teachers already teaching Pilates who want advanced repertoire, pedagogy, and guidance.
Is there an application process?
Yes. The Practitioner’s Apprenticeship requires an enrollment application and passing our Acceptance Benchmark test. The Pro Mentorship and Mat & Reformer Certificate have open enrollment with no prerequisites.
How can I get ready for the Apprenticeship?
Many students start with the Pre-Apprenticeship, which builds your personal practice, introduces you to anatomy basics, and prepares you to meet the Acceptance Benchmark. It’s the best way to feel confident and set up for success when applying.
Do Somaphyx programs prepare me for NCPT or continuing education credits?
Yes. The Practitioner’s Apprenticeship fulfills the requirements to make you eligible to sit for the NCPT exam. The Pro Mentorship provides 22 CEC credits for NCPT renewal.
What’s included in tuition?
Tuition covers seminars, online curriculum, supporting coursework, and more depending on program. Payment plans are available.
Where are trainings held?
Seminars take place at Pilates 804 in Richmond, VA, with the option to attend intensives virtually. Studio pillar hours (observation, practice teaching, and personal practice) may also be completed at affiliate studios.
